MANAGEMENT ENGINEERING AND RE-ENGINEERING

There is an adequate and sufficient Bulgarian experience in diagnostics and design of organisational structures and management methods. It is ready to be applied in practice.

PRODUCTION SYSTEM RE-ENGINEERING

Such a re-engineering is needed when the current production model, appropriate for bulk or specialised products, should be adapted to the requirements of a new, more flexible and efficient, small or middle-series pattern of production.

Re-engineering includes the technical disposition of equipment, entrance and inside logistics, the co-operation schemes, the proportion of the involved external resources for subsidiary and assistance activities, and so on.

NEW COMPANY FUNCTIONS ENGINEERING

It is engineering of the so-called “new company functions” – strategic planning, innovation and sales marketing, product and technology R&D, logistics, promotion and distribution, management accounting, human resources management. This type of engineering/re-engineering could be overall or partial, depending on the client’s style, realities and needs or on external factors. For example, instead of building a full-scale HRM function, the work may be limited to several or one system only – recruitment and selection, appraisal and evaluation or others.

The two types of engineering/reengineering schemes follow the conventional methodology consultation mode. A compound team of company experts and consultants is formed and it undergoes a special training. Then a complete diagnostics is carried out to assess the state of applied organisational structures and management methods. In the process of assessment the level of company information, material, technical and personnel assurance is evaluated. Its evidence and conclusions give grounds to design or modernise company functions or activities. If the results are satisfactory, the work can stop here. Or if executive management decides it does not posses the necessary resources for the next steps to be carried out at that moment. But such cases are more an exception.

The next stage calls for a formulation of a design set – work schedules and a resource plan. Then the separate plan tasks and assignments are carried out and the results are fixed by different measures. The consultation assistance takes time, which depends on the company level, realities, experience and commitment

Consultations on strategic planning and company policies are a direct assistance to senior management
